Divine Neuroplasticity.
Romans 12:2 (KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2 (NLT) “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
This passage offers a profound blueprint for understanding neuroplasticity—the brain’s remarkable ability to physically reorganize in response to experience and habit. We often treat our thoughts as transient, yet neuroscience shows that, over time, thought patterns become biological reality.
When you allow yourself to be conformed to the culture—engaging in the constant barrage of outrage, triviality, and vanity—you are literally reinforcing neural pathways that lead to spiritual stagnation. You are habituating your brain to operate within the “customs of this world.” These pathways become the path of least resistance, making it increasingly difficult to perceive truth or divine intent.
Change The Way You Think
However, God’s call to “change the way you think” invites you to engage in divine neuroplasticity. When you intentionally pivot toward His Word, your brain begins to forge new, robust connections. By practicing gratitude and humility and studying scripture, you stimulate the growth of neural networks that support moral discernment and alignment with the Creator’s purposes.
This transformation is not merely subjective or metaphorical; it is a structural renovation of the mind. By refusing to replicate the world’s broken patterns and instead flooding your mind with the unchanging, perfect will of God, you physically rewire your cognition. You shift from a mind shaped by human chaos to one shaped by the architecture of God, ultimately gaining the mental clarity to discern what is truly good, pleasing, and perfect.
I just completed a 16-week course on neuroplasticity. You will likely see more of this in the future. This process of transforming the mind occurs through relationship: both with God and His body.

Pushing Buttons, Stirring Pots & Poking Bears
Pushing buttons, stirring the pot, poking the bear, etc. are all terms used to get someone worked up to the point where a reaction takes place. Usually the reaction caused is not a positive one. I was working with a couple and at some point, in the process, received a request from the husband. His…
Don’t Fake It Till You Make It!
The first time I remember hearing the phrase, “Fake it till you make it,” was at a MLM meeting over 35 years ago. The ‘preacher’ was on the stage doing a good job of working the crowd. People were on their feet shouting and clapping. Many of the people were already following the guy’s advice,…
