The Best Gift

Who will get the best gift this year? Will it be you, me, or someone else?

James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no change or shadow of turning.”

The God we serve is not just our God, but he is the Best Father. James refers to Him as the Father of Lights who is unchangeable.

This world and the temptations it provides lead people into darkness, into the darkness of guilt and shame, of personal disappointment and accusation, of hurting and damaging others, of destruction and death, of secrecy and hidden affairs, of the night and closed doors, of hidden and secret acts.

Temptation leads individuals into a world of darkness, not God. God is light, perfect light–so perfect that there is no variation or shadow of turning with God. God is unchangeable. He is the God of lights. God always gives us things that will stand in the light, things…

  • That gives us joy.
  • That is good for us.
  • That does not shame us.
  • That can build us up, perfect, and mature us.
  • That gives us assurance and confidence.
  • That makes us secure.
  • That brings us love, joy, and peace.
The Perfect Father

Jesus is our perfect Father. He never leaves us in the dark, groping and grasping for the truth. He always opens the light of the truth and gives us every good and perfect gift because He is the Father of lights.

James said there was no shadow of turning. In other words, He shines His light upon us in a way that there is no shadow. He is always above, casting a perfect light so we may see clearly in every direction. When you take a step, He takes that step. He is present with each step we take.

The best gift is Christ in you, the hope of Glory. God’s best gift is living in you, assuring you of eternal life. The best gift is for whosoever will.

The best gift goes to you–if you want Him!

The Power of Giving Thanks

Giving thanks. Being thankful. Seems like the same thing but there is a difference. One is proactive, the other reactive. Is either one wrong? Absolutely not! Both are right. Both are needed. Consider an obvious Scriptural example. Dr. Luke tells a true story of ten men, which he records in Luke 17:12-18. If we cheat…

Rejecting God’s Forgiveness

Is rejecting God’s forgiveness possible?  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 KJV). “…There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent” (Luke 24:47 NLT). There is no doubt that God’s forgiveness is available to whosoever will.…
