What does celebrate your weakness mean? I have said for many years that it takes a strong person to recognize their weaknesses. When people come to me for help, I do my best for them. Those who refuse to see fault in themselves or admit to any frailty, I am unable to help.
People like to trumpet their strengths, bring attention to their triumphs, revel in their victories, and rejoice in the positive.
But, for every strength, there is a weakness. For every triumph and victory, there is a defeat. For every positive, there is a negative. To ignore this is to impede growth. How can we lay aside any weight or sin that plagues us if we refuse to recognize them?
In 2 Corinthians 12:8-10, Paul writes, “For this thing I besought the lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
Paul was so confident in who he was in Christ and the strengths he possessed that he was able to recognize his weaknesses: physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual.
If we do not embrace our weaknesses, our strengths will not be perfected. It is because we recognize our weaknesses that we also recognize our need for God. Recognizing our need for God is something to celebrate.
With the help of God, when we recognize and address weaknesses, strengths get stronger, and weaknesses get weaker.
The opposite is true, as well. By not dealing with weak areas, strong areas get weaker, and weak areas get stronger.
So, be thankful for, and rejoice in your weakness. Celebrate your weakness. Do this and you will be strong.
